Beautiful and well kept county park on the downstream side of the dam, giving easy access to the lake. Wonderful campground hosts, as well. One of the best parks we stayed at on a five week trip. Only downside was that it was a little muddy off the paving and gravel, but hey, it'd had been storming for the past several days. Did so that night, too; rain, hail, wind, lightning and thunder! Made for an exciting night. Overall, it was so nice we'd have loved to extend our stay had it been possible for us.
Great place to camp for the 4th of July. But reserve early as spots fill up quick. Family friendly great camp hosts and good fishing on this part of Smithville lake.
The campsites are very well kept and the management was very nice and always on site. The sites each have electrical outlets and water spouts so even if you are tent camping you still can have access to those things, and there is a public bathroom that has showers and laundry. They also sell ice and firewood right at the camp site. All of the amenities are very convenient and everyone was very nice but the sites are very close together and definitely not in the woods. They are on an open field with a view of a football field and the road, and there were a lot of families there and all campfires had to be put out by 8 so if you are looking to be "one with nature" or to stay up late this probably isn't the site for you. My only actual complaint is that they say they are dog friendly, which they are, but this is limited to the campsite and dogs are not allowed in the lake or at any of the activities or rentals available there. If a place to park your RV is what you're looking for then this place would be great.
Well kept camp. They do a great job of keeping late night noise to a minimum. Nice open field for activities and spillway and lake is close for fishing.
Beautiful setting, plenty of place for the children to play. Very friendly and courteous staff. Will stay here again if passing this way.
